Planned Parenthood Leader Defends Her Organization On Capitol Hill

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards testified before the House Oversight Committee Tuesday, in the wake of the release of a series of undercover videos this summer that showed high-level staffers discussing the harvesting of fetal tissue.

Richards rebuffed accusations that the organization sells fetal organs for profit.  And she entreated lawmakers not to revoke the federal funding Planned Parenthood receives for women's health, which, she says many low-income women rely on. While Congress has passed a spending bill to fund the government through Dec 11 including monies for Planned Parenthood, some Republican lawmakers are threatening a government shutdown later in the year if funding for the organization is not withdrawn.
